Lambuth ousts CU

JACKSON — Lambuth's 18th-ranked Eagles put away pesky Cumberland 84-71 in the TranSouth Conference quarterfinals Thursday night.
The Eagles led 40-39 at halftime before they pulled away by knocking down 11 of 13 free throws in the second half to reach the semifinals with a 25-6 record.
Ivan Jenkins led a balanced Lambuth attack with 17 points, including three 3-pointers, while Kierren Lovick also threw in three triples as he, Foluke Tobin and Jeremy Weddle each scored 16.
Thomas Douglas dropped in three triples to lead Cumberland with 19 points while Desmond Rhodes finished with 15 and Kevin Bufford 14. Chase Burnett scored seven in his Bulldog finale while Torrez Hampton, Joseph Northington and Steven Jamison each finished with four and Brandon Oldham and Maurice Johnson two apiece as the Bulldogs finished a 15-15 season.
Cumberland dominated the boards 40-24, but may have been done in by 22 turnovers to Lambuth's 16. Bufford bagged 11 rebounds and Northington 10 for the Bulldogs. Jenkins and Weddle each finished with four assists for Lambuth.
