Lady 'Dawgs conquer Blue Mountain

Cumberland's 12th-ranked women broke open a close game in the second half Saturday to race past visiting Blue Mountain 77-51 at the Dallas Floyd Center.
The Lady Bulldogs led 34-31 at the break before roaring to their 17th win against three losses and improving to 7-2 in the TranSouth Conference.
It was the Lady 'Dawgs' defense which led the way, holding the visitors from northern Mississippi to 21-percent shooting over the final 20 minutes.
C'Kala Humes hit 8 of 9 free throws to lead four Lady Bulldogs in double figures with 16 points. Keisha Forrest threw in 13 while Tomika Hall and Renae Williams each tossed in 10. Isabelli Cunico added eight while Kari Maddox scored six, Ewa Bukowska five, Mariel Ruis four, Hilary Bauer three and Ashley Cross two.
The Lady Bulldogs dominated the glass 61-38 as three players reached double figures in rebounds – Cunico with 11 and Hall and Forrest 10 each.
No one scored in double figures for Blue Mountain, which fell to 6-12, 1-8.
Cumberland will hit the TSC road Thursday when the Lady Bulldogs travel to Jackson to take on No. 8, and two-time national champion, Union at 6 p.m.
