WATERTOWN — Friendship Christian's girls broke open a close game in the second quarter Friday afternoon as the Lady Commanders knocked off University School of Nashville 54-42 in the Watertown Chamber of Commerce Christmas Classic.
The Lady Commanders led 10-7 following the first quarter before widening the margin to 24-10 by halftime and 43-21 through three periods as they pulled even at 2-2 for the season.
Center Katy Vaughan led eight Lady Commander scorers with 13 points. Sara Hay threw in three 3-pointers for nine while Lindsey Farmer added eight, Carly Warmath seven, Jessi Couch six, Jody Leftwich five, Gabbie Lowe four and Lacey Farmer two.
"When we get that many people to score, it's a good day," said Friendship coach Deanna Teeter, whose Lady Commanders return today to face Cascade at 2 p.m. "We did a lot of things better."
Guard Krish Nye scored 16 points to lead USN.
Cascade climbs past Tigerettes in fourth quarter
WATERTOWN — Watertown pitched a second-quarter shutout and put two players in double figures – and still lost.
Cascade came from 11 points behind in the fourth quarter Friday to overtake the Tigerettes 31-29 in the Watertown Chamber of Commerce Christmas Classic.
Watertown used a 9-0 second quarter to build a 19-8 halftime lead. The Tigerettes took a 26-15 advantage into the fourth quarter before falling to 7-3.
"They went to a halfcourt trap and we had too many turnovers," Watertown coach Jeff Luttrell said after his Tigerettes committed 20 turnovers. "We got lethargic and allowed them to set the tempo in the fourth quarter. They went on the attack and we were on our heels."
Tiffany Gibbs tossed in 12 points for Cascade.
Center Miaushia Thompson tossed in 12 points and forward Amanda Montgomery 10 for the Tigerettes. Brittnee Sells added the other eight.
Watertown will host University School of Nashville at 5 p.m. today.
