Lady Bulldogs race past Blue Mountain

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. — Cumberland's 13th-ranked women had little trouble with Blue Mountain in the regular-season finale Saturday, winning 91-73.
The Lady Bulldogs raced to a 42-28 halftime lead as they closed out a 23-6 season and 13-5 in the TranSouth Conference.
They are in a three-way tie for third place with Lambuth and Freed-Hardeman. Coach Clint Mason said before the game he expected Cumberland to come out as the No. 4 seed and host Freed at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Dallas Floyd Center in the opening round of the conference tournament. They are a lock to reach their third straight NAIA National Tournament in Jackson next month.
Renae Williams tossed in 20 points for the Lady Bulldogs while Keisha Forrest tossed in 12 of 14 free throws on her way to 16 and Isabelli Cunico connected on a pair of three-pointers en route to 12. Hilary Bauer added eight points while Ashley Cross, Ewa Bukowska and Kari Maddox each finished with five and Tomika Hall, C'Kala Humes, Kiana Robinson, Juliana Fernandes and Mariel Ruis racked up four apiece as Cumberland connected on .509 of its shots from the floor.
Kelly Yates knocked down 9 of 10 free throws to lead Blue Mountain with 17 points while Magan Weeks threw in three triples on her way to 11 and Brittany Wilson 10, also with three triples as the hosts [7-20, 2-16] threw in 13 treys out of 22 total made field goals.
Cumberland controlled the boards 51-32 as Robinson and Bukowska each bagged eight. Cross supplied seven assists.
