Lady Bulldogs drop DH

Cumberland dropped a 9-1 and 5-2 TranSouth Conference double header to visiting Bethel on Monday.
Carthage-native Maegan Morris scattered eight hits and a walk while striking out eight to lead the Lady Wildcats in the opener. Ashton McFarland drove in three runs and Danielle Courville two as Bethel scored three times in the third inning, four in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Jamie Smith drove in Ashley Ferguson in the bottom of the third inning for Cumberland's only run.
Jessica Moon allowed nine runs on 11 hits in 5 1/3 innings before Micky Geyman recorded the final two outs.
In the nightcap, freshman Courtney Carr was reached for 10 hits and two walks in seven innings as the Lady Dawgs dropped to 3-9 for the season and 1-5 in the TSC.
Morris drove in two runs on three hits as the Lady Wildcats climbed to 6-8, 5-7. McFarland scattered nine hits.
Mt. Juliet's Amy Eden drove in both Cumberland runs on three hits, including her second double of the season. Jackie West also had a pair of hits for the Lady Bulldogs.
Cumberland will bus to Mayfield, Ky., today for a 1 p.m. conference double header at Mid-Continent.
