Lady Bulldogs defeat Martin Methodist

PULASKI — Cumberland's Lady Bulldogs held on to defeat Martin Methodist 67-65 and improve to 15-3 overall and 5-2 in TranSouth Conference play Saturday.
The Lady Bulldogs built a commanding 39-28 lead at the close of the first half before Martin Methodist mounted a comeback.
Clutch free throw shooting lifted Cumberland, who shot 80-percent from the line in the second half compared to just 40-percent by Martin Methodist.
Renae Williams fired in 23 points for the Lady Bulldogs. C'Kala Humes tossed in 12 points, Kiana Robinson 11, Kari Maddox seven, Juliana Fernandes added six, Isabelli Cunico four, and Ashley Cross and Tomika Hall two apiece.

The Bulldogs of Cumberland University were up-ended 86-64 at Martin Methodist Saturday. The loss dropped Cumberland to 10-8 on the season and 2-5 in conference contests.
The Bulldogs fell behind 42-31 at halftime and didn't recover. Martin Methodist sank 21 of 22 from the free throw line in the victory.
Chauncy Shelton of Martin Methodist led all scorers with 23 points. Teammate Kirk Newnham added 17.
For Cumberland, Channing Tucker knocked in 21 points. Chase Burnett put in eight points, Aurimas Silys added six, Brandon Oldham, Thomas Douglas and Jason Langelier five apiece, Desmond Rhodes four, Maurice Johnson three, Steven Jamison, Kevin Buford and Joseph Northington two each and Torrez Hampton a free throw.
