Greenwood pitches Central by Smyrna
SMYRNA — Wilson Central took care of its scoring early and Leevie Greenwood took care of Smyrna's hitting in a 5-1 Lady Wildcat win Thursday.
Greenwood hit a sacrifice fly in the Lady Wildcats' two-run first inning and a sacrifice fly in their three-run second. Caitlyn Bailey had three of Central's hits, including a two-run double in the second.
After surrendering a run in the bottom of the first, Greenwood handcuffed the Lady Bulldogs the rest of the way, allowing five hits and four walks while notching nine strikeouts as the Lady Wildcats climbed to 6-3 for the season and 3-0 in District 9-AAA.
Savana Bell, Courtney Billington, Sara Williams and Shelley Stewart stroked singles for Central.
The Lady Wildcats travel to Franklin today for a 5:30 p.m. varsity game at Coach Ashley Putman-Serbin's alma mater, Page. The JV will follow.
Harris hurls Lady Saints past Trousdale
MT. JULIET — Courtney Harris pitched Mt. Juliet Christian to its second District 8-A win of the week, a 3-2 decision over Trousdale County on Thursday.
Paige Hudson's two-run triple overcame a 2-1 Trousdale lead in the bottom of the third inning and Harris held the Lady Jackets at bay the rest of the way. The senior allowed six hits and no walks while striking out six as Mt. Juliet Christian climbed to 4-6 for the season and 2-2 in the district.
Hannah Staggs singled twice and Leanna Sanders once to round out the Lady Saints' four-hit parade.
Mt. Juliet Christian scored in the first inning before Trousdale tallied single scores in the second and third.
The Lady Saints will host Metro Christian at 4:30 p.m. today.
