Among its business Monday, the Wilson County Commission will fill the vacant seat for District 3.

The seat was formerly held by the late Fred Weston, who passed away Jan. 20.

“We were saddened by Mr. Weston’s death. He served his constituents and Wilson County honorably for several years, even in recent years while battling cancer.  Wilson County has lost a great public servant.” Wilson County Mayor Randall Hutto said in a press release regarding the vacancy.

Public recommendations will be accepted during the public input portion of the meeting, and an individual must be nominated by a commissioner from the floor to be considered for voting.

The individual selected will fill the seat until the August election.

Other items on the agenda include appointments for two positions with the Joint Economic and Community Development Board and three Judicial Commissioners.

A public hearing for zoning purposes will be held one hour after the commission convenes.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Wilson County Courthouse.
