A Mt. Juliet man died in a motorcycle wreck on State Highway 109 Saturday night.

State Trooper John Welker said in his report Jesse J. Gross, 22, was riding a 2002 Yahama motorcycle headed north when he tried to pass a 1990 Ford Mustang driven by William K. Clemmons Jr., 47, of Mt. Juliet, who was stopped at the Stewart Lane intersection.

Welker said when Gross tried to pass improperly, the motorcycle hit a 2008 Kia Rio, driven by Michelle A. Griffin, 46, of Antioch, head on. According to the report, Gross was thrown from the motorcycle, which was carried 10 yards down the road by the Rio.

Wilson Emergency Management Agency director John Jewell said Gross was pronounced dead at the scene.

William T. Griffin, 44, of Antioch, was a passenger in the Kia. Welker reported no other injuries in his report.

The incident happened at 8:18 p.m. near the Home Run Market near the Sumner County line where construction is ongoing at the Cumberland River Bridge.

The report said everyone in vehicles was wearing a seatbelt and alcohol or drugs were not contributing factors. Gross was wearing a helmet.
