Devilettes, Wildcats net victories

Lebanon's girls opened their season Monday with a 7-0 shutout of Wilson Central at Coles Ferry Recreation Center.
Wilson Central's boys prevailed 5-2.
Singles winners for the Devilettes were Chelsea Fyke over Amanda Ward 8-3, sister Courtney Fyke over Krissy Sullivan 8-4, Sarah Morgan over Casey Ford 8-1, Kacey Conatser over Renea Bolngue 8-1 and Samantha McElfresh over Amber Seveir 8-1.
Doubles winners were the Fyke sisters over Ward and Sullivan 8-1 and Morgan and Conatser over Ford and Bolngue 8-1 as the Devilettes handed Jim McDowell a win in his tennis coaching debut.
Singles winners for the Wildcats were Tyler Pullen over John Do 9-7, Devion Crotizer over Ben Fennell 8-0 and Darren Thacker over Andrew Puryear 8-5.
Doubles winners for Central were Crotizer and Thacker over Do and Fennell 8-6 and Pullen and Andrew Cooper over Puryear and Peter Misaiphon 8-1.
The Blue Devils' wins came from Nos. 4 and 5 singles. Misaiphon edged Cooper 9-8 in a 9-7 tiebreaker and Patrick Jones defeated Grant Owens 8-3.
Lebanon will host District 7-AAA rival Cookeville at 3:30 p.m. today at Cumberland.

Friendship teams improve to 3-0
HENDERSONVILLE — Both Friendship Christian teams remained undefeated through three matches Monday with 5-4 [girls] and 7-2 [boys] wins over Merrol Hyde.
The Lady Commanders needed 8-3 doubles wins from Paige Watson and Christen Tressler over Shannon Hargis and Melania Martin and Hannah Neal and Jenna Hazelwood over Crystal Deip and Leah Hart to prevail.
Singles winners for Friendship's girls were Watson over Alaina Kiskaddon 8-2, Tressler over Bianca Reid and Laura Wilson over Hart 8-4.
Winners for the Lady Hawks were Hargis over Amanda Ferrell 8-2, Martin over Ashley Ayub 8-6, Deip over Katie Mitchell 8-5 and Kiskaddon and Reid over Ferrell and Ayub.
Friendship's boys enjoyed a clean singles sweep. Winners were Dillon Bane over Alan Wong 8-2, Andrew Neely over Taylor Leath 8-0, Jordan Huddleston over Braxton Wilson 8-3, Hunter Harwell over Cole Welch 8-3, Jonathan Huddleston over Judson Laucina 8-6 and Michael Smith over Jackson Butler 8-4. Bane and Neely knocked off Wong and Wilson 8-2 in doubles.
Jordan Huddleston and Trey Farmer lost 8-6 in doubles while Friendship's Ryan Haywood and Rohan Ayub also dropped a doubles decision.
Friendship will return to Sumner County today for a 3:30 p.m. match against Station Camp at Vol State.

Harwell returns to Lady Saint lineup as MJCA sweeps Portland
OLD HICKORY — Crystal Harwell returned to Mt. Juliet Christian's lineup from an illness Monday and sparked the Lady Saints to a 5-4 win over visiting Portland at Old Hickory Country Club.
Mt. Juliet Christian's boys breezed past the Panthers 7-0.
Harwell made her senior-season debut after being hospitalized with an infected kidney. She returned to No. 1 singles and shut out Cheyenne Cline 8-0 and teamed with Cindy Overstreet to overpower Cline and Kaitlin Greer 8-1.
Sealing the Lady Saints' win were Kate Walker and Chelsea Mobley, who edged Catherine Childress and Kassie Martin 8-6 at No. 2 doubles.
Other winners for the Lady Saints were Walker over Rachel Collins 8-1 and Overstreet over Greer 8-1.
Winners for Portland were Shannon Hunter over Mobley 9-8 [7-3 in the tiebreaker], Childress over Hannah Jordan 8-6, Kacie Greer over Sara Beth Walker 8-1 and Hunter and Lindsey Walton over Jordan and Sara Beth Walker 8-1.
Singles winners for Mt. Juliet Christian's boys were Josh McKenzie over Paul Yates 8-2, Andrew Ziady over Joel McKnight 8-1, Caleb Wagler over Ryan Jochowski 8-2, Sam Anderson over James Moore 8-3 and Ben Brescka over Nathaniel Rogers 8-1.
Doubles winners for the Saints were McKenzie and Ziady over Yates and McKnight 8-1 and Wagler and Brescka over Jochowski and Rowdy Fleming 8-2.
Mt. Juliet Christian will travel to face White House at 3:30 p.m. today.
