Dawgs led Lyon get away Scot[s] free
BATESVILLE, Ark. — Five Lyon College players scored in double figures Thursday night to send the Scots to a 70-62 win over Cumberland.
Lyon led 32-31 at halftime before pulling away as the Scots improved to 12-17 for the season and 3-14 in the TranSouth Conference.
The Bulldogs dropped to 15-13 for the season with a stopover in Memphis for a 4 p.m. game at No. 21 Crichton scheduled to end the regular season. At 7-10, the Bulldogs can climb no higher than sixth in the TranSouth Conference but could slip to a tie for sixth with Freed-Hardeman. At present, CU appears to be ticketed for a first-round conference tournament contest at either Union, Lambuth or Martin Methodist next Thursday.
Levi Taylor fired in four three-pointers to lead Lyon with 16 points while Preston Butts and Brandon Thomas each finished with 14, Trey Salley 11 and Chad Glover 10 off the bench.
Torrez Hampton had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead the Bulldogs off the bench while Chase Burnett threw in 13, also in reserve. Joseph Northington notched nine points, Maurice Johnson and Brandon Oldham eight each, Desmond Rhodes four and Thomas Douglas two.
