Adkins 2nd on Vols' K list

Former Wilson Central pitcher James Adkins is moving up the University of Tennessee record books as fast as one of his fastballs rocketing toward the plate.
The Vol junior enters this weekend's SEC series at Alabama second on the school's career strikeout list with 288, trailing only three-time All-America R.A. Dickey, who fanned 345 from 1994-96. The left-hander struck out six in a 5-0 win over Siena last Saturday to move past former No. 1 draft choice Luke Hochevar into second place.
At 2-2 for the season, Adkins moved into a tie for ninth on UT's victory list with 20, passing Colorado Rockies All-Star first baseman Todd Helton [1993-95] and Jimmy Lee ['68-70] and pulling even with Jeff Glover ['84-86] and Bill Aldridge ['75-78]. Dickey leads in this category as well with 38.
