Mt. Juliet launches new mobile-friendly website

The city of Mt. Juliet has updated and upgraded its website.  

As more people trade in their desktop computers for tablets and smartphones, websites need to change with the times, city officials said.

According to a study by comscore.com, while desktop computers are still relevant, mobile device use has skyrocketed in recent years. Out of time spent on digital media, – meaning all devices – 60 percent is spent on mobile platforms such as tablets and smartphones.

With this the trend for information sharing, city officials felt it was time to upgrade the website to a more mobile-friendly platform. A website committee was formed with representation from each department to view vendor demonstrations and build a list of needs and requirements for the new website. After the project was bid and vendor vetting was completed, CivicPlus a leader in municipal website design, was chosen for the project.

The new site at mtjuliet-tn.gov features one-click shortcut buttons to most frequently requested information, a news sharing spotlight feature and access to the city’s social media. The site is more mobile friendly with a responsive design. As the site shrinks to fit a cellphone, it imitates a mobile app, but the user does not have to download additional software. Google Translate is also a feature on every page, offering more than 40 languages at the click of a button.

The new site offers increased ease of navigation through the use of enhanced search and menu options. Buttons on every page of the website lead residents to easily access an online bill pay portal. A popular feature from the old site, Action Line, was renamed Submit a Request, and lets residents notify the city about potholes, lights not in service and other city concerns.
