Southside wins two over Winfree Bryant

Southside pulled off a road sweep of Winfree Bryant on Monday night.

The Lady Saints rallied in the fourth quarter for a 22-38 triumph before Southside’s boys completed the sweep with a 39-31 victory.

Southside’s girls led 7-6 following the first quarter and 12-11 at halftime before Winfree Bryant went up by nine during the second half. The Lady Aviators held a 25-18 lead going into the fourth period before turnovers opened the door for the Lady Saints.

Jasmine Angel’s 17 points led the Lady Saints. Aubree Starnes finished with five points, Keionna Britton four, Abby Moser a three-pointer and Sadie Pittman and Miyaunna Cason two each.

Samantha Newton’s 13 points in the post powered Winfree Bryant. Katie Smith scored six, Maleigha Oldham five and Allie Dozier four as the Lady Aviators fell to 1-2.

Ethan Shelton scored 13 points and Cameron Marshall 10 for Southside’s boys. Griffin Creswell supplied six points, Eric Odum four and Nathan Harris three as the Saints pulled even at 2-2.

Kemon Neuble notched 11 points for Winfree Bryant while Kito Aruh added nine, Joe Greenwood five, Xavier Mills four and Devin Campbell two as the Aviators slipped to 1-2.

Southside will play host to Christiana at 6 p.m. tonight. Winfree Bryant will entertain Watertown at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Baird boys, Watertown girls post Saturday matinee wins

Walter J. Baird’s boys pulled away to a 53-32 win over visiting Watertown after the Tigerettes posted a near-identical 52-33 triumph during matinee action Saturday.

The Blue Devils led 11-6 following the first quarter, 22-13 at halftime and 37-20 going into the fourth.

Dylan Alsup and Tavarus Booker each scored 16 points for Baird with Booker totaling 12 rebounds. Jared Lawrence and Kentez Burford supplied six points apiece while Tyrique Cooper finished with four, Malcolm Logue three and Chase Birdwell two.

Tomlinson tossed in 14 points to pace the Purple Tigers.

Watertown’s girls trailed 8-5 following the first quarter before using a 12-8 second to edge in front 17-16 by halftime. The Tigerettes widened the margin to 33-23 going into the fourth.

Maria Alloco sank four three-pointers in leading the Tigerettes with 23 points while Brenna Luttrell added 11. McKenna George scored six, Meagan Nix finished with five, Victoria Patterson three and Ashlea Dickens and Emma Edwards two each.

Hunter McGowan, Mattie Averitt and Christaney Brookshire each scored eight points for Baird while Jenna Manus supplied seven and Becca Merrell two.

Baird will travel to West Wilson tonight for a 6 p.m. double header.
