Pau Delgado Rodriguez scored a pair of goals and added an assist and third-ranked Rio Grande netted six goals in 25 minutes in a 6-0 victory over Cumberland in men’s soccer action Sunday in Rio Grande, Ohio.

The Bulldogs (4-11-1, 3-5-0 Mid-South) were shutout for just the second time all season and the first time since September 10 at Martin Methodist. The Red Storm (11-1-2, 6-0-2) ran its unbeaten streak to 10 matches, outscoring opponents 45-4 during the stretch.

Cumberland kept the match scoreless until late in the half when Ryota Tonegawa put the home team ahead on an assist from Patricio Arce and that’s the way the teams went to intermission. But Rio Grande blitzed the Bulldogs in the first 20 minutes of the second half, pulling away with five goals.

Delgado Rodriguez netted his 10th goal of the season just four minutes after the break on assists from Romain Terzian and Maximiliano Viera and Arce scored three minutes later on an assist from Craig Davies.

William Paulino registered a goal in the 59th minute on an assist from Delgado Rodriguez before Terzian got into the scoring column unassisted in the 62nd minute. Delgado Rodriguez finished off the spree in the 64th minute, also unassisted.

The Red Storm outshot the Bulldogs, 28-7, in the match. Ian Hamilton collected nine saves in net for Cumberland, while Jon Dodson played the first 76 minutes for Rio Grande and posted three saves.

Cumberland finishes the home schedule with two straight outings at Lindsey Donnell Stadium-Kirk Field, taking on Bluefield College this Saturday at 3 p.m. before hosting Georgia Gwinnett on October 29 at 3 p.m.
