Cumberland athletics announced its 2013 gameday events this week, which includes Thank-a-Teacher Day, Champions Day, Hall of Fame Weekend and a canned food drive.
CU will honor the 1993 football team on Oct. 5 on the 20th anniversary of the program’s only NAIA playoff appearance.
Thank-a-Teacher Day for the home opener on Sept. 28 will be coordinated through the School of Humanities, Education and the Arts and recognize all Cumberland-educated teachers. Pregame tailgating activities will take place and all attendees will be honored at halftime of the game versus Bluefield.
CU football will honor the 1993 team before the Oct. 5 contest against Pikeville as part of Champions Day. Women’s soccer, women’s basketball, men’s bowling and baseball, teams that all won conference championships in 2012-13, as well as all NAIA All-Americans and Capital One Academic All-Americans from the past academic year will be recognized at halftime of the contest as well.
Homecoming and Hall of Fame Weekend will take place the following weekend, with the annual Hall of Fame dinner set for Friday, Oct. 11. Those former athletes and/or coaches will be honored during the game on Oct. 12 along with the traditional crowning of the homecoming king and queen versus Union College.
Cumberland will hold a canned food drive benefitting Joseph’s Storehouse in Lebanon during the Oct. 19 game. Fans who bring two or more dry or canned food items will receive a $3 discount on admission to the contest against Faulkner.
The Bulldogs will honor 17 seniors during the final home game of the year on Nov. 2 versus Bethel.
Over 170 football players are expected to report to campus on Aug. 9, with practice beginning Aug. 12. The Bulldogs will open the season Thursday, Aug. 29 at Tennessee Tech.
