I read Hershel Butts’ letter to the editor, “Piercings, tattoos don’t have place in restaurants.” I totally agree and will go a bit further. They don’t belong in any food service, including grocery stores.
Where I currently shop at a big chain supermarket, there is a checker who has numerous facial piercings. I’m sure he is a nice guy and maybe a good worker but this gross appearance should not be allowed when handling food. With earlobes with large holes and nose rings, I always select another checkout cashier.
I’m surprised these food establishments don’t have a personal hygiene or appearance guideline.
