A celebration of Norman’s life and faith will be conducted Saturday, Oct. 14 at 2 p.m. at Fort Hill United Methodist Church at 106 Oakridge Blvd. in Lynchburg, Virginia by the Rev. Ron Litten and the Rev. Janet Hawkins. Visitation will follow in the fellowship hall.

Norman Everette VanZant, 82, of Lynchburg, Virginia passed away Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017 at his home surrounded by family. He was the loving and devoted husband of Nancy Lee Hissong VanZant for 64 years.

Born Jan. 2, 1935 in Troy, Ohio, he was a son of the late Howard Edward and Belle Elizabeth Stetson VanZant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Allen VanZant; a sister, Evelyn Stine; and a son-in-law, Michael Byrom.

Norman retired as chief executive officer of Wynn’s Precision and was a longtime member of Fort Hill United Methodist Church, where he sang in the church choir, taught Sunday school, served and chaired various church committees and spent countless hours in many other capacities. Over the years, he and Nancy were blessed to be able to share their talents in musical programs they presented together for various groups. His greatest joys were serving his Lord and others and spending time with his family. He was a loving and caring father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and his gentle and unselfish spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by their three admiring daughters, Julia Christine (David) Huddleston, of Cookeville, Nancy Marlene (Lyle) Fogleman, of Bristol, Norma Darlene Byrom, of Forest, Virginia; six grandchildren, Matthew Howard (Perri Ann) Huddleston, Nathan Everette (Dasha) Huddleston, Russell Colby Fogleman, Ryan Lee Fogleman, Abby Lynn (Dominick) Izzo, Michael Andrew Byrom; two great-granddaughters, Anna Grace Huddleston, Chloe Mae Izzo; and numerous other relatives and friends.

As an expression of sympathy, donations in memory of Norman may be made to the Fort Hill United Methodist Church Organ Fund by those who so desire.
