A desire to help their neighbors battling cancer and have fun while doing it is what has fueled the group through the years, and that same spirit carries on this year with a new twist.
On Feb. 5, the Shamrock Society invites everyone to a new event called Mardi Gras at the Capitol.
“This event will truly be a celebration of life, love and everything that is great about this community,” according to one member of the Shamrock Society. “Our goal is to be a blessing right here in this community and inspire hope for everyone involved.”
The event will kick off at 6:30 p.m. with a good ole-fashioned New Orleans-style funeral parade through the square.
“We’re going to put cancer in the casket,” said event organizers. “Many of the members of this group have been touched in personal ways by cancer, and this event is intended to celebrate what cancer cannot take from us.”
The event will take place at the historic Capitol Theatre at 110 W. Main St. in Lebanon. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. with a New Orleans-inspired menu, including a surprise Mardi Gras-themed dessert.
There will be a live Motown band to get attendees’ toes tapping. There will also be a cash bar, live auction and a few entertaining surprises.
All of the proceeds will stay in the Wilson County community to help Sherry’s Run meet the needs of neighbors battling cancer. At the event, attendees will have the opportunity to hear from some of the patients that Sherry’s Run has touched and how support can change lives and give hope.
“The Shamrock Society members have been a tremendous blessing to the work of Sherry’s Run through the years,” said Tonyia Watson, Sherry’s Run board chair. “It takes people with their passion, vision, and willingness to give in order for this ministry to be so effective.”
There are still a few tickets available, but they are selling fast. Tickets are available for $50 each at Mo’Cara, G.G.’s Jewelry and Gifts or the Sherry’s Run office. Call 615-449-2088 or 615-925-2592 to buy tickets or get more information.
Support allows Sherry’s Run to assist cancer patients 52 weeks a year with gas, groceries, utility bills, housing payments, prescription assistance, health insurance premiums, medical bills and colonoscopy assistance. After the cost of the annual run, more than 90 cents of every dollar goes toward patient services and education.
