Plenty of watermelon events remain at the fair

What would the Year of the Watermelon at the 2016 Wilson County Fair be without a watermelon patch?

More than 70 high school and middle school students prepared the watermelon patch beside the Town Hall in Fiddlers Grove. They will hold activities each day during the fair, which wraps up Saturday at the James E. Ward Agricultural Center in Lebanon.

“We hope people will come out and participate in these fun events,” said Hale Moss, president of the Wilson County Fair Board. “It’s just one of the many reasons ‘We Want You at the 2016 Wilson County Fair.’”

Remaining events include:

• guess the watermelon’s weight Tuesday at 6 p.m.

• watermelon rolling Wednesday at 6 p.m.

• watermelon head decorating Thursday at 6 p.m.

• guess the number of watermelon gumballs in a jar Friday at 6 p.m.

• watermelon seed-spitting contest Saturday at 2 p.m. Pre-registration is required.
