Fire destroyed a two-story home early Saturday morning in Mt. Juliet.
A mother and her son were in the home just before 3 a.m. when the smoke alarms sounded, according to a Fire Department of Mt. Juliet spokesperson. They immediately evacuated the home located in the 13000 block of Lebanon Road.
FDMJ units responded. When they arrived, the rear of the house was engulfed in flames. High winds complicated operations and the fire took over the entire home. Crews were at the scene in single digit temperatures about three hours to completely estinguish the fire. The structure is a complete loss.
"This has been a cold, icy firefight," said the spokesperson.
The Tennessee Department of Transporation came to the scene to spread salt where the water turned to ice. The Rehab 23 unit also showed up to provide water and service to the responders.
