Empower Me Day Camp holds ninth annual Swinefest

Empower Me Day Camp played host to its ninth annual Summer Swinefest at College Hills Church of Christ on Saturday night.

Empower Me Day Camp is a nonprofit organization that was established by pediatric therapists to provide opportunity to children with disabilities in the greater Nashville area.  The annual Swinefest was organized in order to raise funds for the camp.

Those who attended the event were treated to food from Tom’s Blue Moon Barbecue with cake and ice cream provided by Baskin Robbins. As attendees ate their dinner and enjoyed desserts, event organizers greeted and thanked them for their support.  The room filled with conversations and fellowship as many gathered for the cause.

In addition to the dinner provided at the Swinefest, Empower Me Day Camp provided many other attractions for the night.  Throughout the event, a silent auction was held in which attendees could bid on prizes ranging from Titan’s tickets and other sports paraphernalia to paintings and gift baskets. Singer Regina Leigh King appeared at the event and sang several of her popular songs. King displayed her CDs for sale, of which half of the cost would go to Empower Me Day Camp.

During the festivities, Executive Director Michelle Hill made an appearance to thank all who had attended for their support and specially thanked all of the event’s sponsors. In addition, she thanked Royce Belcher and presented him with an award for his continued help and hard work to provide for Empower Me Day Camp.

After Hill thanked the sponsors, campers and helpers from Empower Me Day Camp made their ways to the stage to perform "There’s A Hole in the Bottom of the Sea," as well as "Too-Te-Ta" for those who had gathered at Swinefest.

To end the night, a live auction was held at the Summer Swinefest.  An auctioneer bid away three items, which included a weekend stay at a cabin, a week-long stay in Florida, and a gift card tree filled with gift cards from area businesses.
