Continuing an eight-year tradition, the Noon Exchange Club of Murfreesboro will hold a formation of U.S. flags in tribute to veterans, military and personal heroes May 28-30 during Memorial Day weekend.
The Healing Field Flags of Remembrance will again be held at 265 W. Thompson Lane at the First United Methodist Church field.
“Those who have visited earlier Murfreesboro Healing Field events know what to expect and will not be disappointed,” said Rebecca Talley, project chair. “Those visiting the event for the first time are in for an awe-inspiring experience. “
A grassy field posted with hundreds of U.S. flags presents an unforgettable panorama of red, white and blue that has earned the description “healing” as part of its name.
The memorial will open May 28 at 8 a.m. and close May 30 at 5 p.m.
Flag sales, which can be dedicated to the memory of a living or deceased veteran, cancer survivor or anyone the buyer would like to recognize, will be made in advance of the event or on the last day after the closing ceremony.
Proceeds benefit the youth, community service and Americanism projects of the Noon Exchange Club. Its national project is the prevention of child abuse, including its local outreach through the Family Center.
“We invite all to visit and support the Murfreesboro Healing Field Flags of Remembrance display. Walk with us amid the ordered rows of Old Glory where each full-sized flag waves atop an 8-foot white staff in a stirring formation. Walking amid the flags, we remember and reflect upon those who died defending our nation and way of life.” Talley said.
