The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation released the name and condition of a suspect who was shot by a Lebanon police detective in an incident just off Interstate 40 near Mt. Juliet on Monday.

Christian Andrew Whitten Galindo, 24, was shot following a police pursuit. According to TBI spokesperson Susan Niland, Galindo’s condition “is not believed to be life threatening.”

The TBI is investigating the incident, which stemmed from a report of a stolen vehicle from a Lebanon business. An officer began to chase the vehicle from Highway 109 to westbound I-40.

Galindo got off at the northbound Beckwith Road exit and, at some point, the vehicle left the exit roadway and went down an embankment.

A Lebanon detective arrived at the scene and got out of his vehicle. Galindo was also outside his vehicle. During the encounter, the officer fired and hit Galindo.

Galindo was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center after he was shot.

Identifying information about the detective involved wasn’t released. Lebanon police said in a statement information related to the incident would be released through the TBI’s public information office, as the TBI is overseeing the investigation.

According to Niland, the TBI’s policy with officer-involved shootings is to not reveal the identity of the officer, and instead defer to the local agency to provide that information as they see fit.

According to Lebanon police, the detective was not injured in the incident. The police department released a statement on social media that said the detective feared for his life when he fired his weapon.

The TBI didn’t reveal whether Galindo was armed during the incident.

The TBI’s Violent Crimes Response Team of special agents and forensic scientists processed the scene and collected evidence while additional special agents conducted interviews Monday. TBI officials said they would share findings from the investigation with District Attorney Tommy Thompson throughout the process for his consideration and review.
