A 19-year-old Watertown man was killed and a 17-year-old was injured in a single-vehicle wreck late Saturday night near Watertown.

According to a Tennessee Highway Patrol report, Michael W. Sexton was driving  a 2003 Toyota Tacoma south on Statesville Road at about 11:32 p.m. Sexton lost control of the truck in a curve near 8190 Statesville Road. The truck went off the road, overturned, hit a utility pole and ended up on its right side in the ditch.

Sexton died at the scene. A 17-year-old Watertown boy was a passenger in the truck and injured in the wreck. His identity wasn’t released due to his age, and his condition was unavailable.

Neither Sexton nor the teen passenger were wearing seat belts, but the report indicated it wouldn’t have made a difference in the outcome.

The report also said troopers didn’t find signs of alcohol or drug use, but tests were ordered on Sexton’s body. The unidentified teen wasn’t tested for alcohol or drugs.
