Wilson Central finishes 5th at state

MANCHESTER – Wilson Central’s boys golf team finished fifth in the Class AAA boys state championship Wednesday at WillowBrook Golf Club. 

The Wildcats finished with a 49-over 625 combined score in the two-day tournament. Central finished behind Knoxville Halls, Science Hill, Tullahoma and Brentwood and ahead of Houston, Walker Valley and Munford, respectively. 

At the end of the tournament, Knoxville Halls and Science Hill were tied at 7-over 583, and Knoxville Halls won the two-hole playoff to capture the state championship. 

Wilson Central’s William Turner and Reece Gaddes tied for 21st individually with the lowest scores on the team, each finishing with an identical 6-over 74-76—150. 

Mt. Juliet’s Cooper Sears, playing as an individual, finished tied for 23rd with a 7-over 79-72—151. Sears shot even par Wednesday. 

Central’s Preston Patterson posted a 16-over 81-79—160 to finish 52nd. Teammates Trey Melvin finished 58th with a 22-over 86-80—166 and Luke Gray finished 60th with a 24-over 89-79—168. 

Lebanon’s Garrett Hughes, also playing as an individual, finished tied for 63rd with a 34-over 90-88—178.
