Cumberland football dropped one spot to 22nd after a 27-20 loss to NCAA Division I FCS Presbyterian College in this week’s NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, as announced late Monday by the national office.

The Phoenix (4-1) gave up a 49-yard touchdown pass with 2:40 remaining to drop its first game of the season. Quarterback Dezmon Huntley rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns and Kris Parker added a career-best 100 yards rushing on 18 carries.

The Cumberland defense also forced a pair of fumbles and stopped the Blue Hose on a fourth down deep in Presbyterian territory, setting up the offense with short fields that the Phoenix turned into 14 points at the beginning of the third quarter to take the lead.

Cumberland will begin Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division play this Saturday at 12th-ranked Georgetown College. The teams have played just twice since 2009, with CU winning 33-26 to open the 2015 season before the Tigers posted a 28-7 victory last year, also at Georgetown.
