CU sweeps MSC Bluegrass honors

Cumberland made a clean sweep of Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division players of the week, conference officials announced Monday.

Quarterback Dezmon Huntley was named offensive player of the week, defensive back David Emanuel is the defensive player of the week and kicker Pablo Dongarro Travecedo earned his seocnd special teams player of the week honor.

Huntley combined for 150 yards of total offense and three touchdowns in the Phoenix win over Webber International. The junior from Mableton, Ga., completed 5 of 7 passes for 82 yards and a touchdown while running for 68 yards and two scores in just one quarter of action last week. He is sixth in the Mid-South in total offense per game (262.5) and is tied for the conference lead with five touchdowns this season.

Emanuel recorded three tackles and an interception, which he returned 26 yards to the end zone to push the Phoenix in front 31-0 in the early stages of the second quarter. The pick-six is the first for Cumberland since 2014. The junior from Murfreesboro is tied for second in the MSC with two interceptions.

Travecedo tallied eight points, including the first score of the game as he remained perfect on the season in extra points making all five last Friday. The senior from Guayaquil, Ecuador, also added a 22-yard field goal - his second of the season. He is fourth in the Mid-South in kickers’ scoring with 20 points. His 14 extra points are third-most in the conference this season.
