Friendship remains unbeaten with win at Goodpasture

Friendship Christian School set out Friday night to keep its undefeated record in tact against Goodpasture Christian, and that’s exactly what it did.

Aided by their ground game, the Commanders (4-0) rushed for 302 yards en rout to a 28-7 victory over the Cougars.

Senior running back Jujuan Foutch was the first Commander to find the end zone, catching a 7-yard slant pass from Colt Mahoney to give Friendship Christian an early lead. After a 3-and-out by the defense, Foutch took the first carry of the next drive 65 yards to the house, and the Commanders never looked back.

Foutch had to leave the game with an injury early in the third quarter, but the Commanders, led by sophomore running back Justin Seagraves, marched down the field and made the game 21-0. Head coach John McNeal said he was proud of his guys and the resiliency they showed.

“The great thing that I saw was, when he went out and we all knew it wasn’t a good [injury], we took the ball down there and scored,” said McNeal. “That says a lot about our guys. They can be down and feeling sorry for themselves, but they didn’t. They took it down there and stuck it in the end zone.”

With Foutch sidelined, Seagraves took the bulk of the carries, finishing with a game-high 136 yards and one touchdown. McNeal said the performance was nothing out of the ordinary for Seagraves.

“We expect that out of him,” said McNeal. “He stepped up and made plays on that drive after Jujuan [Foutch] went out.”

Goodpasture was able to cut it to a two-score game and work their way into Commanders territory with five minutes left, but any chance for a comeback was thwarted by senior defensive back Gray Taylor, when he intercepted Dylan Brooks and took it 70 yards to the end zone.

McNeal said he wasn’t overly happy with how the offense played, but praised the defense and summed up the performance in five words, “Well, we got the win.”

Friendship Christian is back in action Friday at Donelson Christian Academy.
