Wilson Bank & Trust employees kick off Second Harvest Penny Drive

A precursor to Wilson Bank & Trust’s annual change-collecting campaign for Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee made an immediate impact for hungry neighbors locally.

This month, WB&T employees collectively donated more than 1,600 nonperishable food items as a start to this year’s Ms. Cheap penny drive. Stacks of cans and packages were displayed at the bank’s Oktoberfest event last weekend to bring awareness to the upcoming campaign, and the food was subsequently donated to Joseph’s Storehouse, one of the local partner agencies of Second Harvest Food Bank.

Beginning in November, collection stations at every Wilson Bank & Trust office will allow visitors to donate change or even take home their own cans for collecting money at home. At the end of January, all the donations will be given to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee.

Last year’s penny drive at Wilson Bank & Trust, which also included a matching corporate donation, raised $15,000 for Second Harvest, and the Ms. Cheap penny drive as a whole raised more than $79,000 to help feed hungry men, women and children in Middle Tennessee. Second Harvest works with local partner agencies throughout the bank’s service area like food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, childcare facilities, senior centers, group homes and youth enrichment programs.
