Friendship Christian School was one of 220 schools in the nation to be recognized as an Apple School of Distinction for the 2013-15 school years.

Apple K-12 Development Executive Katherine E. Hughes made the announcement Tuesday.

The Apple Distinguished Program designation is reserved for programs that meet criteria for innovation, leadership and educational excellence and demonstrate Apple’s vision of exemplary learning environments.

“Friendship is one of 220 nationally recognized schools to receive this distinguished award,” Hughes.  “Additionally, FCS is one of only three private schools in the state of Tennessee to have this distinction.

“Friendship Christian was identified as a center of educational excellence and leadership consistently demonstrating visionary leadership, innovative learning and teaching and quantitative and qualitative accomplishments.”

Jon Shoulders, president of Friendship Christian School, said, “We are extremely honored to be recognized and have this award given to our school.  This highly lauded national award recognizes quantitative excellence and innovation, which makes us even more excited about what we are offering our students and teachers.”

“We have embraced Apple technology – just finishing the third year of our Apple 1:1 initiative.  We believe Apple has been a key component in our success – as showcased in our exceptionally high ACT scores. In the class of 2014, the top 10 percent average is 33.25, the 25 percent average is 28.14 and the overall average is 24.64.  We are excited about the future of our partnership with Apple and continually ask: ‘What’s next?’  To that end I am pleased to announce in other very exciting Apple related news, our entire school will be a 1:1 learning environment with Apple technology.

“This means that every student from pre-kindergargen through 12th grade will have access to an Apple device every day, in every class.  Students in seventh- through 12th-grade student will be upgraded to an iPad Air with continual 24/7 use, a significant improvement over the iPad2 they have been using with great success. Pre-K students will have the iPod touch, and K-6 students will have the new iPad Minis for use in every class, a very exciting development for us and our students.”

The Apple presentation was part of a technology showcase event – one of many throughout the year held at Friendship Christian School.  In the audience were educators from throughout the state who had come to the event to learn firsthand how students, teachers, and administrators effectively incorporate the technology into the classroom.
