Friendship Christian art students compete in Scholastic Art, Writing Competition

Friendship Christian School art students recently participated in the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition. 

Cassie Bookout, Austin Hunter, Josh Luck, Christopher Mickle and Alex Sealy entered the drawing category; Jalyn Chaffin entered photography and digital art categories; Alisa Fowler entered the photography category; and Amelia Smith, Courtney Thockmorton and Hanna Wright entered the ceramics category.

Sealy, a senior, was recognized with an honorable mention for her drawing, “Untouchable.”

Smith, a senior, was recognized with an honorable mention for her ceramic work, “Old McDonald.”

Chaffin, a sophomore, was recognized with two silver keys for her digital art, “Blazing Skies,” and photography, “City Streets.”

The Scholastic Art and Writing Competition is a regional and national contest that began in 1923 and features artwork from students in eighth through 12th grades. This year, more than 1,350 visual art entries were submitted.

Chaffin will be recognized Feb. 1 at a ceremony at Cheekwood. The gold key artwork will be on display in Cheekwood’s Museum of Art from Jan. 31 through March 2.
