The event, which serves as the only significant fundraising initiative for the organization, promotes creativity among its patrons in various ways.
“We encourage everyone to come dressed up in a theme — every table has its own theme,” Peggy Simpson, director of Wilson Books from Birth, said.
“In other words, the eight people at a table will dress in the same theme, and that table has a server who will be dressed in that theme.”
In previous years, some themes have included “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves,” and “The Cat in the Hat.”
“Pull out your favorite children’s book and pick out a character to dress as for the dinner,” Simpson said. “It’s always a lot of fun.”
Sometimes groups will be issued a fun challenge as well, Simpsons said.
“One year we had a UT orange table that was challenged to go around the whole building doing the gator chomp,” she said. “It can get pretty wild.”
This year marks the event’s 11th year running. The cost to sponsor a table is $250, and each table seats eight people.
Last year’s event raised more than $10,000 for the organization, which provides a free age-appropriate book in the mail each month to every child in Wilson County from birth to age 5.
