New Leash to sell property on Highway 109

Staff Reports • Updated Nov 22, 2016 at 12:00 PM

Capital Real Estate Services in Lebanon will represent New Leash on Life in the sale of 3.64 acres on Highway 109 in Wilson County.

The available property borders the 500,000-square-foot porcelain tile manufacturing company under construction at the Cherry Farm Industrial Site.

The property on Highway 109 was originally bought with assistance from the Patricia McGavock Animal Welfare Fund of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee and was intended to be the home of a new animal shelter. Due to costs associated with developing the land in preparation for a building, the project was put on hold.

“The sale of the land will allow for its original intention; proceeds from the sale will be used in renovating the current adoption center location and helping more animals in Wilson County,” said Angela Chapman, director of New Leash on Life.

Improvements in the current facility will include adding a kitten room, indoor and outdoor runs for the dogs, replacing heating and air conditioning systems and improving filtration, the addition of meeting space for volunteer trainings and staff meetings, indoor visitation areas, a photo room, a parvo room, a larger lobby and an expanded laundry and bathing area.

Once the expansion begins, the project will be done in phases. A portion of the renovation will be funded through the sale of the property on Highway 109, while some of the build and renovation will require a capital campaign.

The expansion will be a three-phase project, including adding to the front of the current facility, adding to the back of the facility and finally reworking the layout of the current facility.

New Leash on Life’s Adoption Center accepts dogs and cats from local rescues, local animal control facilities and accepts owner-surrendered animals. Animals at New Leash on Life receive any medical services needed, including heartworm treatments and surgeries such as hernia repair, mass removal, casting, X rays, etc.

New Leash on Life, a nonprofit animal welfare group, is at 507 Jim Draper Blvd. in Lebanon. The facility is next to the new Lebanon Dog Park and directly behind Pro Bowl West.
