Five women, six men earn Academic All-MSC accolades

Cumberland women’s basketball players Terra Pryor, Nicole Bowers, Kristian Watkins, Cydney Goodrum and Jailen Murphy were named Academic All-Mid-South Conference on Tuesday, as announced by the league office in advance of the conference tournament that will begin Thursday in Frankfort, Ky.

Student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically and maintain a 3.25 grade-point-average and above.

Goodrum holds a 4.00 GPA in business administration, while Murphy carries a 3.80 in business administration and Bowers has a 3.48 in special education. Watkins, from Friendship Christian School, posts a 3.45 in business administration and Pryor registers a 3.25 in health and human performance.

Cumberland will open play in the Mid-South Conference Championships on Thursday at 5 p.m. CST against second-ranked Lindsey Wilson at the Frankfort Convention Center.

Cumberland men’s basketball players DeQyan Bond, Marquel Hickerson, Cameron Johnson, Garrett Kirland, Trenton Perry and Rhyan Townes were named Academic All-Mid-South Conference on Wednesday, as announced by the league office in advance of the conference tournament that will begin Friday in Frankfort, Ky.

Student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically and maintain a 3.25 grade-point-average and above to be eligible for the award. Cumberland and Lindsey Wilson produced the most academic honorees with six each.

Perry holds a 4.00 in marketing, while Kirland carries a 3.75 in special education and Townes has a 3.48 in biology. Johnson posts a 3.40 in health and human performance, Bond has a 3.34 in health and human performance and Hickerson holds a 3.27 in business administration.

Cumberland will open the Mid-South Conference Championships at 7 p.m. CST Friday against eighth-ranked Pikeville.
