The former Cumberland star made his MLB debut last Friday, striking out two of the three Miami Marlins he faced in the ninth inning to close out the Brewers’ 10-2 win.
Wilkerson, one of the aces during Cumberland’s 2010 NAIA championship season, went 11-4 with a 3.16 earned-run average in 24 starts for Double-A Biloxi this summer, striking out 143 batters in 142 1/3 innings. Promoted to Triple-A Colorado Springs for the Pacific Coast League playoffs earlier this month, he threw seven no-hit innings at Memphis with 11 strikeouts and one walk.
Between his minor-league stops, Wilkerson’s team has won his last 10 starts, including games in which he left trailing. That could be very important to a Brewers team chasing the Chicago Cubs in the National League Central and the Colorado Rockies in the NL wild card chase.
Gametime for Wednesday’s game is 6:05 p.m. CDT at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
