Drivers’ Services for Veterans

10 a.m.

A portable state driver’s service office will be at the Wilson County Courthouse on Wednesday, July 13 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. to provide drivers’ services for veterans. Services will include adding veteran codes to driver’s licenses or identification cards with a valid DD 214, providing 360 letters for reinstatement information, driver’s license renewals and state identification cards, CDL renewals and testing with required documents.

Tennessee Agricultural Museum Free Family Event

16th Annual Dr. Cary Harbrect Memorial Chamber Scramble

7:15 a.m.

The 16th Annual Dr. Cary Harbrecht Memorial Chamber Summer Scramble will be Monday, July 18 at 7:15 a.m. at Five Oaks Golf and Country Club at 623 Five Oaks Blvd. in Lebanon. The day will begin with the Gold Heroes Classic, sponsored by American National Home Health. The 18-hole tournament is open only to veterans and seniors 50 and older. Breakfast and lunch are provided for these players. A shotgun start will be at 7:15 a.m. The main tournament kicks off at 1:30 p.m. and will be a four-person scramble over the course’s 18 holes. Transportation Coalition of Tennessee presentation

The Transportation Coalition of Tennessee will present to citizens and community leaders in Lebanon to discuss a transportation infrastructure funding dilemma. The meeting will be Tuesday, July 19 at 6 p.m. at the Wilson County Courthouse at 228 E. Main St. in Lebanon. It will feature Lukas Salyer, who represents the Tennessee Infrastructure Alliance.

Jammin’ with the General

Jammin’ with the General will be Thursday, July 21 at 6 p.m. on the Lebanon Square, featuring Four on the Floor, a Fayetteville-based five-piece ensemble that plays everything from Motown to disco. Music fans are encouraged to come and enjoy shopping at square retailers before the performances and partake in the eats local food trucks will dish out. The events will be open to the public and admission is free. Jammin’ attendees should bring lawn chairs.

 

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5015 meeting

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5015 in Lebanon will meet Thursday, July 21 at 6 p.m. and on the third Thursday of each month in the Veterans Building at the James E. Ward Agricultural Center. Any veteran who has been awarded a campaign medal or combat medal for any hostility is eligible for membership, verified by the veterans’ DD 214 Form. Presently, Post 5015 is having success in rebuilding its post and becoming active in district and local events. It is not a Lebanon post, but a countywide post. Next Step Resource Center grand opening

The Lebanon-Wilson County Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting and grand opening Friday, July 22 for Next Step Resource Center at its new location at 100 Mabry Road in Lebanon. 

 

Blooms and Butterflies at Long Hunter State Park

Take a walk on the Deer Trail to take a peek at the blazing stars and swallowtails they attract Friday, July 22 at 6 p.m. at Long Hunter State Park in Hermitage. Participants are encouraged to bring a camera.

Sellars Farm Archeological Park cleanup 

7 a.m.

A cleanup day will be Saturday, July 23 from 7-11 a.m. at Sellars Farm State Archeological Park in Lebanon. Come prepared to remove brush from the earthworks. Suggested attire includes old T-shirts, long sleeve recommended, jeans and closed-toe shoes. Anyone not dressed appropriately will not be permitted to participate. The mounds are overgrown with brush and brambles, which volunteers will remove so the area may be replanted with native grasses at a later time. Park will provide water, loppers, saws and work gloves. Bring bug spray. 

 

Tennessee Agricultural Museum Free Family Event

9 a.m.

The “Horsing Around” event will be Saturday, July 23 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Tennessee Agricultural Museum at Ellington Agricultural Center at 440 Hogan Road in Nashville. The Metro Mounted Police Patrol will train Tennessee Walking Horses at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Children can saddle up for a miniature donkey ride or help feed and groom them and see a team of Belgian horses. Stop under the shade tree for a lesson in sheep shearing. Enjoy dulcimer music from 9-11 a.m.  Sheep and spinning will be at the log cabins and freshly ground corn meal at the grist mill. Moth Madness at Long Hunter State Park

Kick off National Moth Week with a fun and informative excursion meeting Saturday, July 23 at 8:30 p.m. in the Shelter House in Area 2 at Long Hunter State Park in Hermitage. Bryant Grove Day Excursion at Long Hunter State Park

9 a.m.

Bryant Grove Day Excursion will be Sunday, July 24 at 9 a.m. at the Bryant Grove Trailhead at Long Hunter State Park in Hermitage. Participants will begin in Area 2 and hike the Bryant Grove Trail down to the Bryant Grove Area, have lunch and a short swim, followed by a hike back. Bring appropriate shoes for a long hike, lunch, a water bottle and sunscreen.

Inland Trail Hike at Long Hunter State Park

4 p.m.

A short, shaded one-mile hike through the oak-hickory forest will be Monday, July 25 at 4 p.m. at the Inland Trailhead in Area 4 at Long Hunter State Park in Hermitage. While on the hike, the group will discuss the plants and animals that are found in the habitats of the forest.

 

Leadership Wilson Reverse Draw

6 p.m.

The Leadership Wilson Reverse Draw will be Monday, July 25 at 6 p.m. at the Five Oaks Golf and Country Club clubhouse. A meet, eat and greet will be from 6-7 p.m., and the reverse draw begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $100 each with the chance to win $10,000. Child Passenger Safety Education Event

10 a.m.

The Wilson County Resource Coalition and Lebanon Police Department will hold a child passenger safety education event Wednesday, July 27 from 10 a.m. until noon in the community room at the Jimmy Floyd Family Center in Lebanon. The event is free and open to anyone, including parents, caregivers and professionals. Information will be provided by Lebanon police certified child passenger safety technicians. Tree Identification Hike and Activity at Long Hunter State Park

3 p.m.

A child-friendly hike and activity will be Thursday, July 28 at 3 p.m., meeting at the Couchville Lake Trailhead, at Long Hunter State Park in Hermitage. Participants will first make a small, easy leaf-identification booklet and then walk along the trail to find the trees that are in the booklet. 

 

Movie on the Lawn

6:30 p.m.

Movie on the Lawn will be Thursday, July 28 at 6:30 p.m. with concessions, inflatables, a balloon man and face painting with the movie to start at dusk across the street from Wilson Bank & Trust’s main office at 632 W. Main St. in Lebanon. Bring a lawn chair and picnic basket. Admission is free for all.

Shoreline Hike at Long Hunter State Park

5 p.m.

A shoreline hike will be Friday, July 29 at 5 p.m. at Couchville Lake Trail in Area 2 at the boathouse at Long Hunter State Park in Hermitage. While hiking along Couchville Lake Trail, participants will look for species that are commonly found along shorelines and what they mean for that community.

 

Cedar Glade Hike at Long Hunter State Park

6 p.m.

A Cedar Glade Hike will be Friday, July 29 at 6 p.m., beginning at the Couchville Cedar Glade at Long Hunter State Park in Hermitage to learn about the unique ecological feature and the species that are found within it. It will be a short, leisurely hike, so participants should wear appropriate shoes and bring plenty of water.

Family Fun Walk and Cedar Tick 5K

7:45 a.m.

The Family Fun Walk and Cedar Tick 5K will be Saturday, July 30 at Cedars of Lebanon State Park at 328 Cedar Forest Road in Lebanon. Registration is from 7:45-8:30 a.m., and the 5K begins at 8:45 a.m. The walk begins at 10:15 a.m. There will be a $5 entry fee for the 5K, and proceeds will be benefit the park. The walk is free. The Wilson County Black History Committee will hold the Peace, Love, Lebanon event Aug. 6 at 6 p.m. at Pickett Chapel. There will be Hula Hoops, face painting and jump rope for children. Tours of the chapel and a candlelight vigil for those lost this year will also be featured to promote unity and diversity. T-shirts will also be available.

MJ Play Day Kids Expo

MJ Play Day Kids Expo will be Saturday, Aug. 27 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Charlie Daniels Park in Mt. Juliet. It will feature vendors, a zip line, laser tag, food, music and more. For more information, call 615-885-2422.
